The Sharptown Fire Department began operating Bingo on Friday evenings in 1980. This was done by utilizing half of the engine bay. By 1982 the attendance had grown to the extent that it utilized the full engine bay each Friday evening. This took much of the day to set up for this function. In 1982 the department constructed the "Firemen's Memorial Center" behind the carnival grounds to house this event.
